We always love some appreciation in the video game music industry. Whenever a game’s soundtrack or background sound wins an award, a part of my heart just lights up with joy. Is it because this is a rare occurrence? Not really, but it definitely could be amped up. With so many stunning musical icons making video game music, the awards should be raked in.
This year at the Grammy’s our very own 8-Bit Big Band won the Grammy Award for Best Arrangement (Instrument and A Cappella) in 2022 for their rendition of Kirby Super Star’s Meta Knight’s Revenge. The fact that something Kirby related won an award is just a super sweet coincidence considering the new Kirby game was released just a little under 10 days ago. The game has been enthralling fans who have absolutely been loving the new animated, open world feel that it has.
But I digress, today is about the fact that the industry won a Grammy, and nothing could ever overshadow that achievement. With over 423,917 views on its official YouTube page, the instrumental cover is nothing short of brilliant. The 4:23 minute song is an instant like for any video game music lover. Take a listen and you’ll understand what I mean.
It’s also amazing to see that the music we often take for granted playing behind a game has so many hardworking and talented people behind it working their butts off for it to be absolutely perfect. Just a small reminder of how we should appreciate the genius behind video game music much more than we currently give them credit for.
It certainly opened my eyes to the amount of hard work and dedication that was showed the band. A win that was truly deserved. Have you heard the cover yet? What do you think of it?
