Video game music has come a long way since the days of bleeps and bloops. Today’s video game soundtracks are just as epic and memorable as those of any Hollywood blockbuster. In this blog post, we’ll take a look at some of my personal favorite video game music ever composed.
One of the most iconic video game soundtracks of all time is that of the Super Mario series. Koji Kondo’s compositions for the Mario games are instantly recognizable and have become some of the most iconic pieces of music in the history of gaming. From the jaunty overworld theme of Super Mario Bros. to the soaring melodies of Super Mario Galaxy, the music of the Mario series has always been a joy to listen to.
Another standout, for me, in the realm of video game music is the soundtrack of the Final Fantasy series. Composed by the legendary Nobuo Uematsu, the music of Final Fantasy is known for its sweeping, epic melodies and emotive compositions. From the haunting “One-Winged Angel” to the uplifting “Aerith’s Theme,” the music of Final Fantasy is an integral part of the series’ enduring appeal.
The Legend of Zelda series is another gaming franchise that is known for its amazing music, which I really love. Composed by Koji Kondo and a host of other talented musicians, the music of Zelda is as diverse as the series itself, ranging from the adventurous main theme of the original game to the mysterious melodies of Ocarina of Time.
Some other notable mentions for me in video game soundtracks include the atmospheric music of the Silent Hill series, the energetic compositions of the Sonic the Hedgehog games, and the retro-infused tunes of the Mega Man series.
Of course, this is just a small sampling of the vast world of video game music. From retro classics to modern masterpieces, the music of video games has something to offer everyone. What are your favorite video game soundtracks? Let us know in the comments!
